One of the handiest uses of in-camera WiFi we've seen.

I’m not saying it’s impossible to combine a love of skiiing with a love of photography, but the industry certainly hasn’t made it a priority yet. GoPro’s optional one-touch control system can be difficult to use with gloves, and even then it’s hard to know exactly where your lens is pointed before you view the result. Thankfully, California-based Liquid Image may have a solution.

At CES 2013, they’re showing off the Apex HD+, a wearable video and still camera mounted on a pair of winter sports goggles. Where you look, the camera looks. And that camera records full-HD 1080p video at a rate of 30 frames per second or, optionally, 60 frames per second at 720p. Two large buttons are incorporated into the left side of the head strap—one for stills and one for video—giving you a dead-simple eyes-off control scheme. The footage looks pretty good too; here’s a clip from the original Apex HD (sans “plus”)…

The best part: the Apex HD+ is equipped with WiFi, and with a free smartphone app it's possible to instantly stream your footage directly to a handheld device. Something to pass time on the chairlift as you head up for another run? Sounds pretty good to me. Who knows, maybe someday soon I'll have myself a field test.

The Apex HD+ will run you $399.99. If that sounds reasonable to you, head on over to LiquidImageCo.com to make a purchase. And while you're there, be sure to check out the company's entire lineup of wearable cameras.

One final note for skiers, our sources confirm these goggles are indeed "very warm." There's nothing worse than getting a cold forehead from lousy goggles. Right? Maybe I just have a large forehead.
