JVC Releases Pair of New Everio Camcorders at CES 2014
Taking the wraps off its 2014 Everio lineup, JVC shows the world two weather-resistant camcorders.
Amid a deluge of releases at the 2014 International CES, JVC has debuted two weather-, shock-, and cold-resistant cameras. This is a somewhat subdued release from JVC compared to last year's CES—where they released six Everio cameras and the oddball PX100.
This morning, JVC took the wraps off the GZ-R70 and GZ-R10. Both cameras are quite tough, with water resistance to 16.4 feet, resistance to drops from 4.9 feet, and freeze-resistance to 14˚F.
Headlining this duo is the GZ-R70. Built around a 40x zoom lens and a 2.5-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor, this camcorder also boasts 4.5 hour recording time and the ability to record while charging. It can capture 1080p video at 60 frames per second, but that means users will quickly fill the 32GB internal memory. Luckily, the SD card slot allows for expandable storage capacity.
The GZ-R70 makes use of a 3-inch articulating LCD touchscreen, and also boasts JVC's K2 technology, which attenuates wind noise during recording. At launch, this camcorder will be available in black, blue, and red for a suggested retail price of $499.95.
Backing up the GZ-R70 is the GZ-R10—a virtually identically-specced (and very similar-looking) camera, with the only differences being a smaller (unspecified) internal memory capacity, and the lack of the GZ-R70's Auto Illumination Light.
Coming in at just $399.95, this camcorder is definitely geared towards consumers who want to save a bit of cash, but are unwilling to compromise on performance. Both cameras also include fun features like time-lapse recording and special effects.
While you'll have to wait until April 2014 for the GZ-R70, the GZ-R10 will be available in March. Be sure to keep an eye on Reviewed.com at CES for more news as it breaks, or follow us on twitter to get updates as the International CES 2014 progresses.
