Updated versions of the popular Flip UltraHD and Flip MinoHD ultracompact camcorders were announced today, with the new models featuring 60p recording and built-in image stabilization. The new UltraHD and MinoHD camcorders will both be available in 1 hour (4GB) or 2 hour (8GB) models.
p. Other than changing the frame rate from 30p to 60p, the new Flip camcorders don’t feature too many significant updates. The models still record at a 1280 × 720 resolution and they do not offer any still image capabilities. All of the new UltraHD and MinoHD camcorders include 2-inch LCDs, HDMI terminals, and 2x digital zooms. The weight and dimensions of the new models have not been significantly altered from the previous generation of UltraHD and MinoHD camcorders. Flip did update the built-in FlipShare software to Version 5.8, which has a new feature allowing users to share video directly to Twitter.
p. Flip also announced a new accessory program that enables third-party manufacturers to develop accessories that are compatible with Flip camcorders. The 2-hour Flip UltraHD includes a special FlipPort connector on its bottom that expands use to powered accessories (like microphones or batteries). Currently, the FlipPort connector is only found on the 2-hour Flip UltraHD, but Flip claims this feature will be included on future products as well.
p. The compact Flip MinoHD is set to retail at $179.99 for the 1-hour model, and at $229.99 for the 2-hour model. The larger, but still very compact, UltraHD has a cheaper retail price of $149.99 for the 1-hour model, and $199.99 for the 2-hour model.
